St. Louis Hinder Club Construction Updates: A Transformation in Progress

Exciting changes are happening at the St. Louis Hinder Club Handball Facility. The renovations are not just a facelift; they’re a commitment to improving the experience for handball enthusiasts and our club members.

Court Renovations

The thrill of handball is alive and well with renovations on two courts, showcasing the club's dedication to providing top-notch facilities.

The First Court has received significant attention, with repairs to the walls and refinishing of the original flooring. The front wall has been plastered and beautifully finished, creating an optimal playing surface. This much-needed makeover prepares the court for exciting matches and events to come.

A Second Court has also benefited from thorough renovations. Its walls have been patched and repainted. In a nod to the club's legacy, the flooring in this court has been repurposed from the original St. Louis Hinder Club location, adding a layer of nostalgia while still ensuring a high-quality playing experience. We are also very grateful for Derrick Olson, who has offered his expertise and hard work, which has greatly contributed to getting the floors just right, meeting the expectations of both players and the community.

Two more Courts are in the process of being ordered for install, from a Handball Court Supplier. The club's goal is to have four full playing Handball Courts by December.

Parking Lot & Landscaping Expansion

A significant change is happening with the parking lot. The area is being expanded to create more space and enhance safety. Over 80 yards of asphalt has been excavated, expanding parking to 75 spaces, reflecting the scale of this upgrade. The club members have actively participated in this project, overseeing the installation of new light poles, curbs, and landscaping islands to ensure compliance with city requirements.

To comply with city regulations, landscaping improvements are also in progress. Trees and bushed have been planted along the property line.

In addition, a new dumpster enclosure is being set up to improve waste management and a retaining wall has been built, aligning with city regulations to maintain the facility's high standards.

Ceiling and Roof Repairs

One of the top priorities of the renovations is the roof and ceiling. The current work focuses on minor repairs, leading to a complete roof replacement planned for the near future. This will enhance the facility’s structural integrity and increase safety for all members. A well-maintained roof can expect to extend the facility's life by up to 30 years, ensuring the protection of the assets in the building.

Cleanup Efforts

Cleanup is in full swing across the facility. The renovation team is tackling every corner, including storage rooms and maintenance closets. All main areas are seeing minor repairs and fresh paint, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.

Safety Enhancements

Safety is non-negotiable, which is why renovations include the installation of necessary emergency exits, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers.

A Community Effort

These renovations wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and enthusiasm of our dedicated club members and volunteers. Special acknowledgments go out to some of our non-member volunteers; Brian Waston, The Missouri State Handball Team, Joe Pupillo, the Concrete and Asphalt contractors, David Mudd with Midwest Block, Kyle's Landscaping and Reliable Tree Service, for their invaluable contributions. This transformation is a testament to the community spirit that defines the St. Louis Hinder Club.

Looking Forward

The ongoing renovations at the St. Louis Hinder Club Handball Facility are not just about building improvements; they represent a renewed commitment to community and the joy of handball. From roof repairs to enhanced safety features and revitalized courts, the club is on an exciting path forward.

As the renovations progress, there’s a lot to anticipate. Club members, donors, and the broader community can take pride in these efforts to modernize this beloved venue. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready for a thrilling return to handball once all improvements are complete!
